
Sarah Kiefer received her Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University in Education with a specialization in teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. She went on to get her Master of Arts degree in Administration: Curriculum and Instruction. She was an Itinerant Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for 11 years before starting her own consulting company where she consulted with schools, families, and students in order to improve outcomes for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Sarah provided itinerant and consulting services across Indiana for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students ranging from preschool to high school. She developed online American Sign Language curriculum and partnered with Indiana Online Academy to offer ASL to high school students in the state. She has since sold her ASL curriculum to other groups in various states. Sarah participated on the American Sign Language Standards Review Committee for the Indiana Department of Education to revise the State Standards for American Sign Language. Sarah also established a Deaf/Hard of Hearing teen group to create social opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing teens. She plans to continue to implement this across the state as DEN Socials.
Sarah served on the board of Indiana Hands & Voices for 6 years and is currently their web master. Sarah is certified in the Lindamood Bell LiPS program, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and Visual Phonics. She is currently working to obtain her Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) Certification. She lives in Brownsburg, Indiana with her husband, two sons, and two dogs. In her free time, Sarah loves to read and spend time with her family.
Sarah enjoys being the School-Age Coordinator for the state at the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (CDHHE) and is looking forward to positive changes in how Indiana serves Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
